Singer and actor Omarion came to Milwaukee on October 28, 2021 to give the city a show at the Millennium Tour. He was accompanied by Soulja Boy, Ashanti, Ying Yang Twins, Pretty Ricky, Sammie and Lloyd. On tour, Omarion has been giving local food businesses a chance to cater the shows, and for his Milwaukee show he chose Royally Vegan.

Tylesha and Jaleel King recently started selling vegan meals through their business Royally Vegan, so receiving a message from Omarion’s team about the job didn’t seem real. According to Tylesha, she thought the message was fake, until she did research. Once she discovered it was true, she immediately hopped on the opportunity.

“I’ve been a fan since B2K,” said Tylesha. “I was starstruck at first…[but] he was real friendly.”

Omarion’s team discovered Royally Vegan through word of mouth and wanted to try the fan-favorite vegan soul food. At the show, Royally Vegan served fried mushroom chick’n, BBQ vegan meatballs with their homemade sauce, dressing, garlic herb mashed potatoes, baked mac n cheeze, and collard greens.

“Chef Tylesha of Royally Vegan knows how to throw down some vegan soul food. Team O could not get enough of the vegan BBQ meatballs and Portabella ‘chicken’. Plant based deliciousness,” Omarion’s team said on his website.

Royally Vegan is known for its comfort food and desserts like their vegan cinnamon rolls. They recently held their annual Thanksgiving sale where customers could order their entire Thanksgiving meals, or just a few items, so they didn’t have to cook for the holidays. Orders are taken a few weeks in advance and they sold out.

According to Tylesha, the company has quickly grown through word of mouth and social media – it should be noted that she did attend school for marketing. Tylesha was sparking people’s interest when she started posting her vegan meals online. The food looked so good that people had to try it on their own, which led to the creation of Royally Vegan.

Married couple Jaleel and Tylesha King went vegan almost five years ago to improve Jaleel’s health. In 2015, he was experiencing serious health issues that involved wearing a heart monitor for months. The doctors didn’t have a solution, so he decided to do his own research.

“I was afraid to do anything when I was in that mode,” he said. “I didn’t want to break.”

After watching the documentary “ What the Health” by Kip Andersen Keegan Kuhn, Jaleel said it was time to change his diet. Together, Jaleel and Tylesha went through the vegan journey together, along with their first child who was eight months at the time.

According to Jaleel, his health issues all went away. He noted he’s always wanted to change his diet, so switching his eating habits wasn’t that difficult for him.

“I’m quick to drop stuff that isn’t good for me,” Jaleel said.

By going vegan Jaleel is able to breathe better, is more energized, his attacks went away and so many more health benefits. He encourages others to take the journey but to do it in moderation. Sometimes going cold turkey will force a person to give up on their vegan journey.

“Take the leap but it doesn’t have to be a big one,” he said. “Being vegan, the transition isn’t hard and Royally Vegan is always there to help you if you need it.”

For Tylesha, it wasn’t that easy. She never saw herself as someone who would go vegan, especially if that meant giving up her hot foods like Hot Cheetos.

For the first few years, the couple was figuring out the vegan life. They went from not knowing what to cook to learning how to make their favorite foods, but with a vegan spin.

“People need to be more openminded,” Tylesha said from experience. “The vegan diet is for everybody.”

The two plan on offering full catering services and getting a brick-a-mortar in the future.
