Celebrating 49 Years

The Atlanta Film Festival will celebrate its 49th annual festival from April 24, 2025, to May 4, 2025. The 11-day festival will show 132 films, with over 30 of those being filmed in Georgia.

The festival is hosted by the Atlanta Film Society, and they kicked off the festivities through its annual launch party on March 24, 2025. Festival goers were invited to the Tara Theatre to prepare for the lineup.

Atlanta Film Festival Executive Director Christoper Escobar said there are three main things he wants festival goers to experience: watching good films, learning, and connecting. He added that the most valuable part of the festival is the social aspect.

“This is for you all to meet each other in the room,” said Escobar at the launch party.

The films will be screened at the Tara Theatre, the Plaza Theatre, the Rialto, and Scout Atlanta.

Hearing from A Producer

The launch party gave space for some of this year’s directors and producers to introduce their films to the festival goers.

Kiah Clingman produced two films that will be shown during the 2025 Atlanta Film Festival: “Super High” and “Color Book,” which is the Opening Night presentation. According to a press release, Color Book was shot entirely with an Atlanta crew.

Color Book is directed by Atlanta native David Fortune, and it follows a father and his son with Down syndrome on their journey to an Atlanta Braves game. Fortune was recognized as one of Variety’s 2025 Directors to Watch.

“We just want you to feel something. I think that’s the beauty about our art,” said Clingman.

Clingman hopes the film brings awareness to the disabled community.
