A Black Woman Invented The Protective Mouth Grill to Protect Mouths and Preserve Culture

From Boutique Owner to Inventor

It was 12 years ago when Christina Rogers left her hometown of Houston to pursue a new life in Los Angeles. For Rogers, L.A. gave her a world of opportunity to chase her creative dreams.

“I think being out here is totally different…you wake up and it’s a playground for entrepreneurs.”

Rogers started as a songwriter and then transitioned into the serving industry. During this time her Instagram following was steadily growing, so she turned that into a business.

For eight years Rogers successfully ran her online boutique Shop Chriss Zoe until 2020. With the industry being so saturated Rogers wanted to focus her efforts on a new endeavor. She spent a year thinking of an idea and then seven months preparing the idea for the market. Within a short amount of time and with lots of research, Rogers is an official inventor.

“I think it’s pretty cool. Honestly, I don’t think it’s hit yet,” she said about being an inventor.

Rogers created The Protective Mouth Grill through her company Ease: an online store that offers unique pieces. According to the site, she believes that “the strongest people who have something to say are the quietest ones in the room who tend to express themselves through forms of art.”

The Protective Mouth Grill, which is currently patent pending, contains a retainer inside of the grill to protect one’s teeth against metal exposure. Rogers wanted to create something that’s never been done before.

Over 100 Units Sold

The Protective Mouth Grill has been on the market since the summertime selling at a starting point of $130. Rogers’ work went viral leading to over 100 units sold.

“I did not expect it to go viral,” she said. “I was like oh shit I got something on my hands.”

Rogers understands her business is new so she doesn’t expect people to hop on the wave just yet, but she does see a high interest in her product. According to Rogers, every two weeks, her abandoned carts total around $2 million.

Ease is currently self-funded by Rogers and is expected to be another successful business under her belt.

“Your desires come from God and God will see you through it,” she said.

Partnering with Dentists and Jewelers

Rogers is teaming up with a dentist to ensure her customers are getting the best service. Ease will soon offer subscriptions for customers to make dental appointments. It’s not just about style for Rogers, but also good health.

She works with a jeweler in Houston to produce The Protective Mouth Grills. Once Rogers receives her patent she plans to share how she makes her grills with the public.

Family of Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship runs in Rogers’ family. Growing up, Rogers and her sister didn’t see their mom work a traditional job. Her mother did events, she worked in fashion, she was a singer, and the list goes on.

Rogers knew she could be what she wanted in life because she saw her mom do it all.

“It was easy to catch on because we were used to it,” said Rogers.
